    Hi everybody,

i just started to AE and would apreciate a lot if you would help me out with this one.
ok here is the situation :
I have 2 layers. One of them is made with fractial noise. it is some kind of moving lava which have a random motion inside.
and other one is a white solid layer with a mask.

the duration of the clip is 5 sec.
I want this mask to change its shape randomly with in 5 sec. as if the lava behind burns out the paper(the white solid layer) at the back and spreads on it.
I have seen the tutorial with the news paper burning but thats not what I want

i need to control the shape of the mask with in a certain period of time if its possible.
any suggestions ? or alternatives ?

    thanks.

    Kemal.

Animate the mask shape parameter using keyframes, as outlined in the manual. You have to do it by hand — it won’t animate its shape randomly automatically.

Another option is to use the gradient wipe transition effect. It requires footage or a comp layer to be used as the gradient map. The transition is applied to a layer using the grayscale values of the map to make the transition. A linear gradient, used as a map, would make a linear wipe, since the grayscale values go from black to white in a linear fashion. Try it with a fractal.

But if your map is an effected layer, make sure you precomp that layer or render it. AE uses a map layer in a comp before any effects have been applied to it in that comp — that’s why you have to render the map layer or precomp it.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve
