Changing the color of an Image file in parts

There’s multiple ways this could be done. The EASIEST may be to simply have three images – one with both red, one with one white and one red, and the third with both white. Add the three images to the timeline, adjust the lengths and transition times to suit, add the proper transition, and you’re done.

Otherwise, you’ll have to create a mask that moves over time and use the color correction tools to change the color.

Edward’s response is very similar to my response to you on another forum where you were asking about doing this with subtitles.
Since you seem to have missed it, that response was:

Create a text event (red coloured) and place it on track 1.
Copy it, paste it onto track 2 and change the text colour to white.
Apply a basic fade (left to right) to the entire event on track 1.
Go to the Transitions tab and drag a Left-Right linear wipe on top of this same event.
As you play it, the text will change colour from red to white as the wipe goes across.
Adjust the event length and insert keyframes as necessary to match the timings.

sorry mike i missed in the other forum. Bascially i’m creating subtitles for songs .but the subtitles change color from red to white as with the audio.for a 6 min song we have 60 lines with 4 words each.

so i created the pngs for the 60 lines with 4 words with photoshop cs2 javascripting.

The main reason i chose vegas was for scripting . i found media generation in vegas doesn’t support scripting . (from edward on his forum).

But mike the workflow u mentioned , is it possible to script them (excluding media generation)?

Not that I’m aware of but, then again, I’m not the scripting guru that Edward is so, if it can be done, he’ll let you know.

Even if you copied the first event and then did a right-click – Paste Event Attributes on subsequent events, you’d still have to drag the fade part out for each and every clip, therefore somewhat time-consuming 🙁

I’d need to know what the workflow is (guess I missed the other somewhere) in order to tell you what parts can or cannot be scripted.

Edward, here was his/her original question from the other forum that I responded to.

I’m totally new to vegas .the basic feature i want to implement is change the subtitle color over time. Initially the color of the subtitle would be Red.i would have an audio recording of the subtitle.
as per audio plays i want to change the color from red to white .

Eg . “Good Morning” (in full red color)

The audio at 1st second says Good .then the color of “Good” changes to white

then audio at 5th second says “Morning”
then the color of the “Morning changes to white ”

I will elaborate the whole process.

Bascially after the lines are converted to pngs(white colored text). i manually place them (line events)in the time line as they sync with the audio of the singer.

after the placement, i create a new video layer below the text layer.
In that i put a red band (png) to fill the entire subtitle part of the video. then i make this child of the text. i change the composite mode of the text track to be mask. so now i get the red color( of the band)text instead of the white text.(Masking)

So for first line i open the pan/crop window of the red band event and change the events x-position so the masked band moves and changes the color.(actually the same text layer i create a duplicate and i put it in layer below the redband layer, with white color , therefore after this red line erases the white one shows up ). then before the next line i move the x-position of the red band back to the original position so it is ready for the next line.

so the script should create keyframes for the redband in x-position nad this key frame creation should be based on the events time position on the parent layer.

any other way to improvise the process mentioned above, also tell.
