  • Changing color of text makes it pixilated

Posted by Dustin Parsons on March 1, 2008 at 10:15 pm

Has anyone run into this problem before? I have some text made in FCP, when it’s white, or really any other color than red it looks fine. Once I change the color of the text to red it pixilates and looks bad. When I export the text it looks the same, as white it’s crisp and clear HD, as red it’s pixilated and ugly.

I made a video of it pixilating in real time here.

Sure, everyone who has ever created red text on a black BG has the same issue. If you switch your compressor in the timeline settings to 10-bit and recompress the timeline much of the compression artifact with that red text will go away.

Red is the most prone color to have issues, at least in SD color space.

Do what David suggests and it should clean up.
