Changing clip connection point
Not sure what the problem is… Sometimes when we attempt to change the clip connection point by command-option clicking the connected clip at the new point where we want the connection, nothing happens. Is there a trick to get it to work consistently?

Is it possible the clips are in a secondary storyline? If so, you need to command option click the storyline, as the clips don’t connect, the storyline does.

No. They’re just regular connected clips.
