changing audio stream

Not sure what you are asking, but if you change only the audio for a DV avi file then create a new avi, the new audio will be used and the video portion will be copied, but not affected in any way.

Should be able to just add the 2nd audio track and mute or delete to original one without touching the video track.

Another way would be to right-click the new audio, drag it to the original audio, and choose “add as take”

Thank you guys. I am sorry, I am new to this tool. How would I save a new project without actually touching the video? When I click “Render As”, no matter what template and codec I choose, the video is still being encoded; hence, the quality gets worse… Am I missing something?

What format is your original video?

What format are you rendering to?

What FX have you added to the project?

For example, if you start with DV-AVI, render to DV-AVI, and have made NO changes, the video is simply COPIED.

If you start with DV-AVI video and add a soundtrack, then render as DV-AVI with the same settings as your original video, Vegas will not re-encode your video. Naturally it will have to render, you are creating a new file with a new sound-track, but the video will be copied bit for bit as is.

The clip is in WMV 9 format.
Specifications: 720×576, 25 PAL, Pixel Aspect Ratio 1.0926.

I am trying to change the audio stream without altering video.

I rendered it as a WMV 9 clip with the same settings as in the original, yet, I have gotten a much larger file with playback issues- the sequence of the clips in the video is not the same as it was in the original.

There are also no FX in this video.

It will re-render WMV-9. Check if the Windows Media Encoder can be used, but I doubt it. You can also try out Windows Movie Maker, but again, I doubt it.

Windows Media Encoder didn’t get the job done, and Windows Movie Maker is really glitchy and hangs up on me every two minutes.

Which template and encoder would you suggest me to use in order to keep the size minimal and have an acceptable video quality? (for WMV as well as AVI files)

I really appreciate your help.
