Changing Audio project properties in Vegas Pro 11 will Crash and Reboot PC
Posted by Paul James chatman on March 30, 2012 at 9:25 amSince the last update to b595 changing the audio properties and pressing either Apply or OK with cause the system to reboot, every time.
This does not happen in Vegas Pro 10 b738.
As it stands all of my v11 projects must be in 48khz, 24bit, Best. Again, if I attempt to change them, even from 24bit to 16bit it will crash and reboot the system.
No dump is saved, so I do not know how to send crash data for support. I will send a help request to Sony directly as well.
Is anyone else experiencing this, if so, what was your solution?

March 30, 2012 at 10:02 amThis occurs with the 16bit version as well. I am going to downgrade back to 520/521 until I get a response for a solution to this.

March 30, 2012 at 10:30 amCorrections: I have discovered it only effects the altering of the sampling rate option. I have been able to change the bit rate and sample quality without a crash/reboot. The system reboot only occurs when I change the sampling rate, currently set to 48Hz.
Any ideas?

March 30, 2012 at 4:51 pmPaul,
This sounds very much like an audio device driver problem to me. Cannot repro here on Win7-64bit and VP build 595 (64-bit).Cheers for now,

March 30, 2012 at 6:25 pmThis is what I thought, too, Tom. But it only occurs with version 11 build 595 & 594. This never happened with the 520 builds. I still have version 10 still on my PC, and it doesn’t occur.
Once I finish rendering this DVD menu project, I’m going to downgrade to the 52x builds. I really do not recall this happening with those builds.
I follow up..

March 31, 2012 at 4:29 amI cannot reproduce this either with build 595. It applies the audio property changes without crashing. Are you sure the audio driver did not change recently. I guess you will know when you revert back to the older SVP 11 build and it is still broken.

March 31, 2012 at 8:50 amYeah it is weird. No the audio driver hasn’t been updated since installing the card last year. Hm?

March 31, 2012 at 6:53 pmCheck to see if you have any other software running while SVP 11 is loaded that might have exclusive access to the audio card. SVP should not crash, but maybe it did not know how to handle the response from the audio driver. Usually they say to disable Windows system sounds, since you don’t want those to wind up in your audio mix. Check for things like Skype that may be running in the background. Are you running ASIO drivers or the generic Microsoft drivers? I checked the release notes for the 595 build but did not notice anything specifically that caught my eye that would cause a problem. It could be they are initializing the card differently to change the settings, but it is not generic enough of an error to cause problems on my system. I am running the Microsoft drivers as the ASIO4All driver was not working well with my hardware. It worked for a while but then I would have problems when I switched out of SVP 11 to run other programs.

March 31, 2012 at 7:23 pmWhen I posted above to say I couldn’t repro, I was initially using the ASIO driver that is installed with my Black Magic Design Decklink Studio 2 card.
I use the same driver for Windows sounds and have never had any issues other than it insists on 48k, 16bit.
I then tried all the other drivers that showed up options in Vegas Preferences for audio device and still had no issues.
Cheers for now,
Tom Pauncz
