  • Changing Aspect Ratio on only one track (4:3 to 16:9)

Posted by Ben Edwards on November 2, 2009 at 9:23 am

We did a two camera shoot, one of the cameras was 16:9 and one 4:3. We are planing on using a mixture of zoom and cropping to make the aspect ratios similar.

I am sure I can work out how to do this on a single event but once I have worked of the settings is there a way of doing this to the whole track. firstly I thought adding a Video FX to the whole track but there does not seem to be a zoom/crop one.

    Any ideas,
    Ben

I’m sure there must be a better way .. but you could use Track Motion to set up a suitable crop.

Decide what aspect you plan to deliver in (16:9 or 4:3) and crop the footage that doesn’t conform. Unfortunately, this must be done at the event level and trust me, you want it at the event level so that you can reposition the crop to not cut off people’s heads or other important information in the scene. Just go into Pan/Crop, right-click and select Match Project Aspect.
