  • Changes and export from Motion 5 with FCP 7 still open.

    I’m using FCP7 and Motion 5.

From Motion 5 I exported a .mov file and imported it in FCP 7. Everything works fine.

But if in the meantime that the FCP with this mov files is open, I do some changes in Motion 5 and export a new file that substitute the one is already in FCP, FCP doesn’t accept the new video file.
Even if after I try to import manually the new mov file I get “File error unknown file” in FCP.

Of course if I export from Motion 5 with a different name or if I export and substitute the .mov file when the FCP 7 project is closed everything works fine.

I know that the can be some incompatibly between FCP7 and Motion5 but this seem very strange.

Any suggestion to resolve this problem so I can do some changes in Motion 5 with FCP 7 still open?

I’m not an expert on disk operations, but if FCP is using a file, you probably can’t write to that file. If FCP was shut down and you made a change in Motion and saved it, the next time you open FCP the new file should be used. If no one chimes in here, you might get an answer on the Apple Motion forum.
