Not by expression. Scripts could do it.

If you create a new text layer and don’t name it, it takes as name the source text value. Is not this how AE works? Or maybe i just did not understand what you asked.

    Thanks, guys.

I thought it might be a scripts thing.

I’m importing a text document containing a subtitle transcript into Ae. I’m then using an expression to fill the Source Text of a text layer, so that the index of the layer informs the expression which line of the text file to use.

Basically I’m looking to flow subtitle text into composition from a text document by duplicating the text layer.

The down side of this is that the text layer name updates with the expression, not the text it refers to. Because I’m duplicating the text layer, leaving the layer name blank won’t really work.

I have a feeling someone here might suggest a plug-in or script for automating subtitles in Ae. If that’s the case – recommend away!

    Thanks again.
