change color of individual clones
Posted by Tim Bowen on November 24, 2009 at 6:37 pmI’m making an iPod animation and am using the MoGraph Cloner to make several iPods. Is there a way to change the color for each individual clone?
thanks

November 24, 2009 at 8:08 pmYou could use the multishader, or the mograph selection tool?

November 24, 2009 at 9:42 pmCreate a new texture
Under the Color tab, select Mograph>Multi Shader as the texture
Click on the white color swatch and add as many color shaders as you need.
In the Multi Shader, select Mode: Index Ratio
Apply texture to your cloner. -

followed the instruction…. created 6 colors in the multi shader, applied it to the cloner, but the shader now has made all the clones grey? -

November 24, 2009 at 11:22 pmIn the editor window or when you render it?
The multi-shader is on the Color tab, correct? And the texture is applied to the cloner?

November 24, 2009 at 11:30 pmsorry,
it just worked when I added a simple cube into the Cloner instead of my iPod model. I suppose there’s something about the model that it’s not connecting with obviously….needs to know what to be assigned to? My model is grouped into a null, but has several parts (body, screen, wheel, etc.) -

November 25, 2009 at 2:31 amNow I’ve been able to change the color of just the iPod body using a Random Effector on the Cloner object….I’m getting multiple colors, which I can adjust using seed in the Effector Tab, but not exactly what I want, and it’s not using the Multi-Shader. Also, if I apply the Multi Shader to the Cloner, the clones show up red in the Picture window, (which is the first color of the multishader), but grey when rendered. Any way you know of doing this and getting the colors I want?
thanks for the help

November 25, 2009 at 5:23 amI think the step you’re missing is to set the effector (either color or random) to affect color in the parameters tab. You won’t get a reliable preview in the editor, so it’s best to use the interactive region render window when adjusting.

November 25, 2009 at 7:03 amHi Adam,
I think I already have that set. I’ve attempted to upload the project here: 403_ipodnanoanimation.c4d.zipif you have the chance to look at it. The colors are pretty close to what I want, but there’s 2 shades of red and 2 shades of blue on 4/6 iPods.

November 25, 2009 at 8:29 amHi Tim-
Sorry, I was teaching at school and unable to check the forums. I’ll take a look at the file and see if I can help figure it out.
