The file was not created in 1979, so I’m not sure what you mean work “like it’s supposed to”.

Part of being a responsible video editor is to learn about disaster recovery. If your file goes poof, and your backup doesn’t have the same information, it might be harder to relink.

FCPX now has an “Adjust Content Created Date and Time” function which is an appropriate metadata function under the Modify menu.
