Change all subtitles at once

The likelihood is that you are going to have to do the changes one-by-one, however:

1] What Text Media Generator have you used? Plain SONY Sample Text, Protype Titler?

2] What is it you want to add? Colour of Text/Background? More words? Different words? Spelling?

3] Are all the Subtitles on one track? For example, 50 Text Events on say Track 5?

thanks ive already made my vide now, i just did it one by one but im still interested.

1] i used “Soft Shadow”
2] i wanted to change the placement of all of them by changing the safezone to %5
3]and yes they were all on the same track

i tried selecting them all then right clicking on one and selecting ‘edit generated media’

Been giving this some further thought.

Track Header Method:-
As you had them on the same track
1] Placement you could use Track Motion. That will place the text of ALL them in the section you want.

2] I just experimented with changing ALL colours of the Text. I used second CC to get the standard WHITE changed to RED. I now have ALL white text showing as RED.

3] Dupe track > offset to Track 1 and add a Gaussian Blur to the copied track.

And here is another way to try . . .

Timeline Method:-
1] Dupe the Text Subtitle Track to Track1

2] In the First Text Event in Track2 create the way you want the Text Event to look and make a Preset “MyTextA”

3] Go to the First Text Event on Track and apply the “MyTextA” – and YES it will be the same as your first Event on Track2, but NOW you have a Preset

4] Go to your 2nd Text Event on Track2 and Copy ALL the Text

5] Go to your 2nd Text Event on Track1 and apply “MyTextA” Preset, and YES it will have the original TExt from your Preset, BUT you still have with the clipboard your Text from your 2nd Text event. highlight the ALL Text and go PASTE!

What you have done is:

A] Created a Preset

. .and then . .

B] Copied your Original Text into the NEW preset Text events.

It sounds mammoth but it DOES work! – I think you could also streamline this by using just ONE track, as long as you copy the Text content prior to adding the Preset.

Go ahead and export your subtitles as-is. Once you import them to DVDa and place them on the time line, you can then change their location, font, size…. etc. There is provision for this in DVDa.

I was unaware this WAS being exported to DVDA? Adrian was only speaking of Vegas 9? I was reading this: “In Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 i want to apply something to all the subtitles that i have already made.”

Please don’t do that.
The Safe Area Title standard set by SMPTE several years ago is 10% for the simple reason that it ensures that your titles will be seen on a CRT TV set, no matter how old.
Vegas defaults to 20% and this is what I’ve been using for all my subtitles.
Even with this setting, I’ve observed titles getting very close to the edge/bottom of a screen on some older TVs.

yeah i was just uploading a video to youtube, and i tested it before hand to see if it was alright, thats why i changed them all to 5%

i have no idea what DVDA is and all i was doing was rendering it to an MP4 and uploading to youtube.

So you were including SUBTITLES on the actual YouTube video? Yeah? You weren’t creating a DVD for playing in/on a settop DVD player, for playing on a TV? I believe our friend here was under the impression that as you mentioned “subtitles” that that was to do with DVD creation, and within THAT type of software you are able to mess with the subtitles. But this is definitely NOT the case, and what you are simply doing is running subtitles across the bottom of the screen as . .. subtitles!

I created a video with a bunch of titles of a certain style, color, location, font type.

Now Client wants a different font.

The only way I know to change it is open each event, change the font, close, and move on.

Is there a way to copy the text event attributes and paste them to other text events?
