There’s the well-documented knowledge item that tells us to burn DVDs at the slowest possible speed for maximum playback compatibility, but what speed should one burn CDs, either for media CDs or non-media items?

    Does the same principle apply?

And how does the burn speed of a CD impact on the speed it takes to copy off its contents to another drive?

    Thanks,
    Neil.

The same principle applies, but you can go too far with it.

There’s no reason to burn a CD at 1x. You’ll be nearly as safe going with half the maximum burn rate of your drive, whatever that is.

And no, once it’s burned it’s no different than any other CD. The burn time doesn’t change the nature of the disc.
