I had mentioned this incident as an “also” in a previous post, but got no feedback, so I thought I try again as a separate question.

I have shot in HDV and am editing in a Kona 3 1080i HDV playback setting (render in ProRez).

I have noticed that if I go to the color correction window, on a paused frame, my levels appear to be clamped at 100% (but I can see that the highlights are really above 100%) When I hit play I see my histogram & WF shoot up into the red + 100 range. If I lower the highlights (in 3 way CC) they lower from the clamp point (100%). So I really can’t accurately adjust.

I’ve transcoded the footage to ProRez and I am now seeing the full dynamics of the signal (while paused in histogram & WF) and can adjust the highlights properly.

Am I missing something? Any insights would be greatly appreciated?

    (Kona 3, FCS2 6.0.4, QT 7.5, PowerMac Quad)

    Cheers,

    Dave,

Thanks for the response. Your explanation sounds perfectly logical.
And, if that is the case I should be able to move to an I frame and get a proper reading. (I’ll try that later & get back with results)

In the mean time, it strikes me as odd that no one else is trying to CC HDV and encountering this problem.

    Cheers,
