i’m trying to animate a cat’s tail in after effects. I have the body on 1 layer and the tail on another. I’m using the puppet tool to animate. The body is working great with 2 puppet points creating lots of expressive movements from the head and shoulders, but the tail is causing me some hardship, trying to animate a smoothly undulating tail motion is next to immpossible, is there a textbook way to do this? is there an expression which links the rotation and speed of rotation of the tail layer to the puppet points on the tail to create realistic flicking… or am I being lazy and should just draw every frame?

    thank you thank you

Or you could pre-comp the tail and add some sort of wave distortion effect to the tail. You can control the speed and size of the wave lenght plus the anchor point.
