I have a CatDV 9.0.6 client in a server environment that won’t start. I was working with it today, had a couple crashes and now when I launch it I nothing happens. The process never appears in Task Manager either. I tried restarting the machine, uninstalling, reinstalling, restarting, etc., even tried safe mode but to no avail. We have a couple other stations and it is running just fine on those.

I’ve looked for a log file under C:Program Files (x86)Square BoxCatDV Pro 9.0.6 but didn’t find anything. I have no idea what to try next and would appreciate any help anyone could offer. This is Windows 7 Enterprise.

The logs should be in App data. That does seem odd for sure.

After looking at the logs for a hint, if you still have the installer for 9.0.6 around, I’d try reinstalling.

Also, might be a good idea to verify your Java installation if you’ve installed any Windows security updates.

That redirection failure is a system problem. I hate to sound like a cliche, but “have you tried turning it off and back on again?” (reboot) – with Props to Roy and the entire IT Crowd team.

That show is very funny Tim, we quote that around here all the time.

“the button on the side, is it glowing?”

Jeff can you send the log to support@squarebox.com they can take a closer look.

Hahaha, no suggestions is ignored! But, yes, I did try that right off when the problem started.

Be glad to. I sent it to Rolf (we’ve been emailing) but I will send it to that address to. Thanks Matt.

Update: It looks like there may be some incompatibility issue between the launcher in CatDV 9 and some other component (most likely a Java update or similar) that we have fixed in CatDV 10. Jeff was able to fix his CatDV 9 installation by copying over the CatDV Pro.exe launcher from v10.

I got an email from Rolf which solved the issue (thank again Rolf):

“One thing you could try is replace CatDV Pro.exe in the CatDV 9 folder with the corresponding file from CatDV 10. The exe is just a launcher and it’s possible we made some improvements to that since v9. (The CatDV application itself is inside the lib folder).
