cartoon-like image from photos in AE
Posted by Michael on July 13, 2006 at 1:07 pmI once saw in here where you can convert a photo in AE into a cartoon-like image. A plug-in was listed. Does anyone remember the plug-in or have any clues? I’m not looking for a vector image from a drawing, like Illustrator CS2 does now…I want to quickly convert an image in AE…..thanks in advance…Mick

July 13, 2006 at 11:46 pmIf you just ahve a phot, and not video, Illustrator is the tool for this. Select the image in Illustrator and click on the Live trace button that appears below the menu bar at the top… My tutorial covers it in part 2.

July 14, 2006 at 4:56 amReally Aharon? Damn… I’ve just ‘cartoonerated’ stacks of pics manually in photoshop!
What I did was apply a Surface Blur and toggle the properties to smooth out as much “fill” detail as possible, but leaving the edges. Then I applied the Cutout and Poster Edges filters (in that order), and adjusted properties to get the particular level of detail you need. Then I’d paint in or out certain details, like cleaning up the eyes & teeth etc, works well.
(be on the lookout for the next series of Surfing the Menu, if you get it wherever you are)
Cheers,

July 28, 2006 at 11:57 amHello there,
I have a little problem with this tutorial. at the end of the second video, the part in adobe bridge doesn’t work for me. the batch procces that should be started in illustrator after doing the live trace adjustment isn’t starting. so at the point where my computer should start to be usseless for some time my computer is very much doing absolutely nothing that might slow it down.
does anybody have or has had the same problem and with it a solution to it.
regards,
Andreas

July 28, 2006 at 12:29 pmDo a search here on “cartoon” and “Bridge” I recall someone else having this problem. Can’t remember if there was actually a solution.
Is it possible you made a mistake with the LiveTrace script, and that’s why it isn’t functioning. Try restoring the original, and see if it will do 10 of them, and if it works, then you’ve messed up the script somehow.
In fact, now that I think about it, I believe that was the other person’s problem.
