  • Card to go with HD Connect LE and FCP in G5 Powermac

I’m shooting footage on JVC GY-HD101E, then will be editing in FCP (latest version), but am interested in buying a Connect LE so I can feed the 720/25p footage though it so it comes out of the SDI/SD into FCP as SD footage with I-frames on every frame.

I’m assuming if I intend outputting an SD DVD via DVDSP3 then the Connect LE and this workflow is the way to go?

But I understand I’ll need a G-Raid 500GB drive that has two 250GB drives raided together so my dual 2gig G5 will be able to handle this new SDI/SD footage, is this right? at the moment I have two internal 500GB 7200 drives and two external FireWire LaCie 250gig drives.

I also understand I’ll need a special card in my Mac to get from the Connect LE into Mac, somebody said Blackmagic? any advice on what the cheapest card available is would be appriciated.

I only intend shooting 720/25p from the JVC in HDV mode and putting that into FCP via either SDI/SD, or SDI/HD (when HD DVD players are more readily available in the future).

Please advice on if I need the G-Raid hard drive and what card I will need to go with Connect LE.

Oh, finally, if I need G-Raid, can I still back up my project, complete with movie files to my LaCie hard drives?
