Capturing Outside Of Sony Vegas, For Sony Vegas

K, so I have a job that simply involves capturing HDV footage, from mini-DV tapes, to external drives, and it all needs to be compatible for use in Sony Vegas.
now, I will be editing this on my own equipment, which is basically just Final Cut equipment. My instinct tells me I could capture into Final Cut in an MPEG format or something, but I really would appreciate a more solid advising from those who know here on Creative Cow.
Basically, can I capture in Final Cut, into a file format that will be usable in Vegas later, or do I have to capture in then export out (worried about image quality/compression here) or is there another workaround? Just want to make sure this footage gets onto a drive, fully compatible w/Vegas with pretty much ZERO loss in quality.
