    HI,

I had footage shot on Sony HVR-V1U, don’t know if it was shot on hdv or dv sp. I tried to capture from the camera, HDV footage did not work, it kept on saying ‘no output image’, so i set camera to automatic and fcp capture settings to pal. But the captured footage does not look as sharp as the original.
    Can anyone help please.
    thanks

The settings on the camera must be correct and match the easy setup in FCP. This has been the case since FCP vers 5. Search this forum as the step by step setup procedures have been covered here many times.

The camera will tell you what the tape format is by plying in the camera and looking at the LCD display. I suspect you are downconverting to DV which looks awful.

Thanks, I will look up for more info. I tried all kinds of things suggested but at the end only pal settings on FCP made it possible to capture. And camera was set to automatic. Do you think it might be HDV and i need an extra device to be able to capture into FCP ?

    thanks
