  • Capturing LIVE to FCP X from JVC GY-HM750U

I apologize if this is a bit outside the thread, but I’m trying to configure FCP X to see my JVC GY-HM750U HD cam so I can literally press record on the camera and import/stream live into FCP X. I can’t find any settings that allow me to select my camera. When I go to import from camera, it only shows the webcam on my Mac Book Pro as being listed. Does anyone know the proper way to setup up a live capture into FCP X with a SDHC-based JVC HD Cam? Thanks!

    Hi.
Are you connecting with USB or FireWire?
To live capture you will need FireWire. I also found that you will have to start capture after you start record on the camera and stop capture before stopping the camera.
I also found that using free run timecode makes fcpx happier.

Thanks Dave. I connected my JVC camera via usb. I did not have a IEEE cable available. When I plugged it into the camera and then into the usb port, FCP X did not recognize anything. I went into the Import from Camera setting and all I saw was the web cam listed. I’m wondering if there is a setting within FCP or even on the Mac Book that would help FC find the camera. Either that, or I have to have that IEEE cable to interface to the Mac Book.

I’m pretty sure you will need that FireWire cable to capture live. USB will only let you download previously shot clips from the cards.

Ahh! That makes sense. I’ll be picking one up tomorrow to try it and hopefully it will work. Thanks so much for the quick response Dave!
