Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Capturing HDV

Hi, I’m new to capturing HD footage.
I’ve got 20-30 HDV tapes that I want to capture as 720×480 NTSC clips. How do I do this?
Right now, if I set my Capture Preset to ‘HDV’, FCP doesn’t recognize my deck, and it says that my firewire is missing. If I set the Capture Preset to ‘HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec’, it allows me to capture the HDV footage at full resolution only, and it doesn’t give me the log and capture controls. It merely allows me to begin capturing on the fly, and escape from capturing.
I’m on FCP 5.1.4, on a G5 Dual 2.5 GHz, 2.5GB of RAM. The HDV camera I’m using to capture is the Sony HDR-HC5. It’s format is HDV 1080i.

What should I do for my settings? (Capture Preset, Device Control Preset, Video Playback)

    Josh

I don’t know that deck, but with the cameras I have used there’s a menu setting to downconvert to DV.

    Have a wonderful day.
