I’m working on my first HDV 1080i 24p project and can’t seem to get my settings right in Media Composer v.4.0.2. I’m capturing from a Sony HVR-Z7U using firewire. I can control the deck from the capture tool but when I try to capture, it says “no input signal present” which makes me think I’ve got an incorrect setting somewhere. Would appreciate any input!

Did you delete all deck/camera channels and start over? Does the OS see the camera when connected?

Yes, I deleted the channel and started over and the camera appears in Device Manager as a compliant IEEE 1394 device.

This is really late in answering your question, but for the benefit of anyone else having this problem. I’ve had similar problems capturing via firewire from the Sony deck (M35U) that corresponds to this camera and this works; for some quirky reason, the order of connecting the camera/ deck is important.

Don’t turn Mac computer on yet. Check the deck settings.

    1. Connect firewire to computer ( BUT NOT DECK).

2.Before connecting the iLink cable, set HDV/DV SEL and i.Link Set in the in/ out record menu. (Otherwise, the edit machine may not recognize the unit or may freeze).

3.Plug firewire into the deck. Turn deck ON.

    Power up Mac.

    Launch Media Composer.
