I’m trying to capture footage from a dvd. I connected my dvd player to my camera with S-Video and camera to my computer with dv-firewire. FCP capture does not recognize the camera which I’ve used many times for capture. Any ideas?

You camera is probably not capable of sending the signal to Firewire in realtime.

    Use MPEG Streamclip instead.

Excuse my ignorance, but is MPEG streamclip a setting or a program?
    Thanks for the quick response

MPEG Streamclip is a free app that just about everyone uses. It allows you rip to any QT file type from DVDs. Don’t make the mistake of selecting export to DV, that’s another kettle of fish. Choose Export to Quicktime and select the file type form there.

    What they all said. mpegstreamclip.

Your way thru the camcorder would work too, if you first recorded onto the internal Dv tape, then captured from the tape.

Unless said DVD is sending out that nasty little copy protection signal.

    But we won’t go there.
