    Hi there,

after grading long format , my clients started to hand me out Blu Ray disks.
So when show reel editing times come, I have to recapture some stuff from those disks.
So I got me a nice Samsung BD-D6500 , hooked it up via Component and get just a black screen into my Decklink Extreme.
I tried the player on the TV and it works fine.
Well, I know I cant capture HDMI due to some copyright protection which cripples the whole standard, but is there something like that in Component too ??
Or does the card detect the player and blocks it ?
    I am kind of baffled..
But maybe I am just doing it wrong…happened in the past 😉
    Any ideas ?

    Hi Sascha,

I’ve definately been able to capture BD output through analog component in the past. The tricky part is making sure your setting are correct. Some players will send a 30hz signal instead of 29.97hz or 23.98hz… Try a couple of settings to see if one clicks.

A better tip I have for you is to use AnyDVD to rip the discs, copy the m2ts file and then bring that into premiere natively. Make your selects and export a QT of your choosing. Works really well.

    Hope that helps.

Hey Juan, thanks for the reply.
So what I did is setting up Component in the BMD system pref.
Connecting the cables and getting nothing in Media Express.
If I switch the Y cable to composite out and set it to that in the system pane, it works.
So, just to experiment, I switch back to Component.
I still see something, colorfull, distorted…but something.
I even tried connecting the Y-R and Y-B cables to Y which gives me a strong colorful overlay.
But as soon as I take the Y cable and move it from composite to Y component it turns black.
I tried every setting in Media Express, even the 3D ones…
    No luck..
Copying the file is no option either…its a standalone player, no data access.

In the Blackmagic Control Panel, do you have Component selected as the input?

Does the player have some format settings for its component out? Is there another player you could try?

Yeah, i am trying that too.
The Player has 720p and 1080i as options for the Component output.
It seems the TV is autosensing the resolution and changes accordingly.
    The Decklink doesnt.
    I tried all input modes.

    Nope YUV 10..

    Ok…its really funny actually.
I noticed the BD player changes it format almost every step on the way.
The Menu is PAL, trailers are NTSC, movies are HD and some 1080 that it doesnt understand.
I dont think I can get it to work, I tried German BDs now, amercian and self burned.
    Its all different somehow..
I need a self switching devince, like my TV.
Tomorrow I will try the Aja card…
    Thanks for the support.

Thanks for this thread Sascha. I am using a BlackMagic Intensity Extreme to test some Apps we are building for Samsung DVD players and without your tip on the video format changing between different states I would have been tearing my hair out.

It appears to be PAL for the root menu and then NTSC for ‘Internet@Home’ and the HTML apps you launch from there.

    Crazy!

    Cheers

    Chris
