  • Capturing from a Digital Hi8 (DCR-TRV480E) to FCP?

    Hello,

I’m trying to digitize footage from my Sony Digital 8 Camera (DCR-TRV480E) to Final Cut Pro. I’ve seen blogs that tell me to just go into my Capture preferences and change my device control to ‘none’, and to just use Capture Now. But it’s still not even reading the camera. There’s no communication between the camera and the computer. I just keep getting an error message that says: Attempt to capture video without video device. Please select a video device in your capture presets and try again.

    Can anyone help?

You should set your easy setup to DV for digital 8 cameras for starters.

When you do, do you see video in the log and capture window from the tape? If not restart your computer with the camera connected and powered on. If you still don’t see the camera, try a different firewire cable and don’t loop it through a drive.
