Capturing format versus color grading
I have a question regading capturing in Vegas.
I have a Canon xl 1s and use Vegas 6.0.I hear that one can capture i 10bit uncompressed to get a better result even thougt
the dv format already is compressed.if i can that, is there a difference in the result when i colorgrade, compared to if i just capture in dv 25.000(pal) and work only in dv format. (my final format is dvd)
ps. i have no hardware capturedevice.

Your XL1 stores the video as a digital stream on the tape. When you “capture”, which is a misnomer when it comes to DV, you store the exact bitstream that is on the tape to your computer. There is no advantage to capture in any other format.
After your capture there may be advantages to up-sampling and working with other formats, I do not know, but no advantage during capture.
Also, of course, you don’t need a capture card for your XL1, you “capture” using FireWire.
