capturing clips from DVD
I edit small clips from several DVDs for small projects. What I do now, is copy the Video_TS folder from the DVD to my hard drives. Then I drag the .ifo file into Vegas. This is ok, but it takes 20 minutes to copy those Video_TS folders.
Is there a quicker solution to capture selected clips from a DVD without losing video quality?
What I’ve done in the past, is use a Canopus AVC110 adapater from my DVD player to my PC. This is ideal, however, I have to use S-Video and lose video quality. I have just installed an AVER Media PCI card with HDMI inputs, but it doesn’t work with my Sony Vegas 8 Pro in the Capture program.
Am I missing something? Looking for an affordable option. The AVER Media card was about $85 which seemed worth it, but it’s not as convenient to use their software to capture video. Thanks much!!!

Try File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc and point to the DVD.

I’ve done that too. It might be a little quicker, but it doesn’t work for all DVDs. I’m just trying to get a couple 3 minute clips from each 1 long DVD.

i use movavi — they have a split tool that allows you to edit the clips you want out of the larger file. works like a charm.
https://www.movavi.com/it’s still labor intensive — but if you’re only extracting a few small clips, it would be faster than the 20 or so you’re waiting now.

I’m just trying to get a couple 3 minute clips from each 1 long DVD.
Sometimes you can just drop the VOB file into Vegas and cut away the parts you don’t want. Then render the rest to MPEG2 DVD and Vegas should just copy the video without recompressing it. Also check out Womble. It can edit MPEG and save without recompressing but only works with SD MPEG files.
