    Hey all,

I have to “load” sound from a Tascam DA-P1 portable DAT recorder into Final Cut and I’m wondering if anyone has experience with that, who might be able to point me in the direction of proper settings, things I should be looking out for, and of course (if possible), a step-by-step guide to gettin’ it done.

It looks like I’ll have to get these DAT tapes into FCP with the “voice over” tool. I have the DAT hooked up: stereo to 8th inch mini, line in…

Does this sound like the correct way to go about it? Is there a way to log using the voice over tool, or will logging involve another step?

    Thanks for your help,
    -V

You can do it that way.

If your DAT and Mac have optical ins and outs, you can simply capture to a file on the Mac and import the AIFF’s into FCP.

Another good way is to record the DAT to a DV or other digital tape (that your system can handle) and then capture the tape (and keep it as another master.)

You will THEN have a tape with TIMECODE that can be re-captured in the future.
