I just converted form using Matrox on PC to FCP on the G5, So please bear with me. I’m capturing from a Canon XL1 via firewire with no problems except that FCP will allow “Only” the 1st 2 audio channels or “Only” the 2nd 2 audio channels to be captured. It will allow all 4 channels to be captured “Only” if the 4 channels are Mixed into 2 audio channels which defeats the use of wireless mic’s as a secondary audio inputs during shooting. I’m sure there’s an easy way to fix this but I can’t find it anywhere.

I’ve found that a 2 pass capture is the only way around this.

Go to your Sequence Setting>>Audio Outputs and set it to 4 channels rather than two. As long as you have 4 channel out from your deck/camera and capture card (Kona LH has this), you should be all set.
Make sure in your log & capture window, in Clip Settings, that you enable all 4 channels to capture.
