Capturing 23.98 from DVCAM NTSC downconverts
Can anyone confirm that DVCAM NTSC tapes downconverted from Varicam (DVCProHD 720/23.08 over 59.94) via firewire from an AJHD1400 deck will contain the metadata “flags” necessary for FCP to remove redundant frames and capture the material as 23.98 clips?
In other words, can I get the same 23.98 timeline in SD using these DVCAM copies as I would if I captured directly from the Varicam camera masters for an HD edit? (Thereby making it relatively easy to conform the edited program to HD (23.98) by re-capturing from the original Varicam source tapes?)
Or, does the Varicam to DVCAM downconvert make that metadata irrelevant? If so, would the FCP capture just need to do a pulldown removal to get to 23.98? What type of pulldown would that be and would the SD timeline be frame accurate for a reconform from the Varicam masters?
Thanks,
