  • Captureing HDV from my HDR FX 7 to Vegas 6

Please help. I’m editing with Vegas 6 software and I’m trying to capture HDV from my Sony HDR FX 7. Simple fact is I can’t figure out how. The capture utility only recognizes the camera with the i link converter set to on. I filmed the video in HDV 1080i with the camera. I’m sure its probably a simple thing I’m overlooking but please help, also will I need to invest in a Blue Ray burner to get the HD qulity or can I just burn the finished video to a standard DVD?

[Dale Himelrick] “The capture utility only recognizes the camera with the i link converter set to on. “

Does windows recognize the camera when it’s connected via firewire in HDV mode? That’s the first thing that needs to work.

The does the capture utility give you the option of selecting HDV or DV? You need to select HDV.

If Vegas does not ask, I’m guessing that at some point you invoked the capture utility, clicked on DV and said “Remember this choice” so that it no longer asks. If this is the case, go to Options | Preferences | Video and uncheckUse external video capture application” and it will default to loading the internal HDV capture utility.

Thanks John, The last option was the one that worked, removeing the check in the box. SO it looks like its captureing fine. Seems like it requires me to start and stop manually after each clip, rather than recognize the timecode on the tape as it does in SD captureing. Am I still doing something wrong?, why won’t it recognize the timecode on the tape?

Click on the Prefs button in the HDV capture utility and make sure that you check [x] Enable HDV scene detection.
