Captured Video Is Blurry – But The Source Video Is Sharp!

I’m shooting with a JVC-DV5000 – capturing with the newest version of Premier Pro.
I watched the Video right off of the source tape on my broadcast monitor, and it was sharp and clear. Captured via Premier Pro on two different computers with two different play-back decks, and got the same result – blurriness!

It’s not over the top blurry – but very noticeably blurry! You did not have to try to see the blur – it is very noticeable, especially on the spokes persons face! What makes it worse is that this is for an Audio – Video store, so they picked up on it right away.

Is there any way at all to capture with less compression, so the image does not get degraded to the point of lameness?

When capturing in Premier, are you looking at the captured video on a TV monitor or on your PC monitor?

The ONLY way to assess video quality is with a viewing device designed to show TV format video and that is a TV monitor.

No LCD monitor or PC CRT monitor displays at the correct resolution, scan rate or interlace pattern.

Playback options are probably set to “automatic” not “Highest quality” Experiment with all 3 playback options.

I am monitoring through a TV, Broadcast Monitor, and Computer.
This is not a preview problem. When I play back the captured video through my Sony VX2000 back in to a TV it is blurry. When I play the source tape straight in to the tv with the VX it is much sharper.

I’ve been using Premier for several years… I know my way around the program. The one thing that I don’t know is if I can capture with less compression???

You should be capturing with no compression at all other than that of the camera when creating the DV source.

Can you let us know what you capture and project settings are.

    Are you capturing via firewire?
