captured HD footage with firewire
we captured HD footage via firewire and it’s playback runs through an Aja 3. Is it normal for our FCP system to look out of sync? the playback monitor looks fine. however, our plasma screen seems to be a frame or two out of sync as well. Will this “bite us in the ass” in the long run?

HD Monitors have an image buffer that delays the picture. So, what you’re experiencing is not really a true loss of sync you need to worry about.
Open SYSTEM SETTINGS — PLAYBACK CONTROL and play with the Frame Offset until you are happy with the apparent sync. This does not really change actual sync in any way in the timeline, it just affects monitoring during playback.

With my Panasonic Pro plasmas, I run a playback offset of 0 for 720p and 2 for 1080i if that helps.

Plasmas are notorious for being 2 frames late on audio -especially the older models, many of the newer 1080p displays correct this but only in the upper price ranges.
