Capture video and audio choppy
Hi all
System specs:
* Windows XP Pro Service pack 2
* Dell 4550 – 2.4 ghz 1 mb ram
* Video card: Nvideo geoforce Ti 4200 64mb
*bsystem drive: 60 WD gb 7200 rmp
* data drive: 200gb WD 7200 rpm
* OHCI compliant firewire card (Dell)Deck: Sony DSR-250
Avid Xpress 4.8
Initially received many errors…like flamthrower timed out….but I was able to get rid of that.
Now it captures the complete tape but video very jumpy and audio garbled…Can’t get any help from avid, hoping you guys can help

looks like your system is too slow. very low video memory. are you capturing to firewire drives?

Thanks for the responseYea, a new video card is definately in order. Firewire from the sony DSR-250 to the computer only.

You need firewire drives or faster. Your video is dropping frames because your harddrives are too slow to keep up with the data rate coming in. You need a drive with high data transfer rates like firewire that have 400 to 800.

I don’t think 7200rpm drives are slow. I used even a slower HD with an edit recently, and I had no problems.
The video board is definitely slow and maybe the main issue. Get a faster board and see what happens.
Have you tried a different firewire cable? That may be the problem too.
