Capture Stops but there is Still Space on Hard Drive
I am capturing footage in FCP and my capturing keeps stopping just over 9 minutes and it says I am out of disc space.
But I have my scratch disc set to a 1 TB external hard drive that has almost 900 GB available.
I can resume the capture process and it will go for another 9 minutes and then stop again. So basically I have plenty of space but for some reason I can only capture 9 minutes at a time.
I have never encountered this problem before – any ideas?

Trash your preferences then try again.
Also, run Disk Warrior on all drives.

How is the drive formated?
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

My guess is that the scratch disk drive is formatted as FAT32. FAT32 only allows a max file size of 2GB. Reformat the drive as a “Mac OS Extended”.

FAT32 file size limit is actually 4GB. But yea thats my guess also.
