  • Capture Stills from BetaSP, no overscan?

Posted by Ninetto Makavejev on January 29, 2009 at 5:49 pm

I am using a DecklinkSP (PCI card) to capture stills from BetaSP-Material.

I am using the Blacklink MJPEG codec and saving the image as TIFs.

The problem I have is that the black border of the captured stills varies: I do not know if this is due to the anomoly of different BetaSP cameras, or if there is a setting in for Decklink NOT to overscan the image? I assume the black border comes from Decklink capturing the OVERSCANNED image.

Would there be a way to preserve the (PAL) pixel-integrity (avoid unneccessary scaling), yet not have the black border around the stills?

Cropping the border afterwards is not an option, since all stills are supposed to have the same dimension. Is the culprit then the various cameras which do not always use all the pixels?
    thanks, nino makavejev

    Hi.

I’d say it is very likely that different sources have variable size black borders as i have seen on different tapes. Some systems also do not give out full pixel area for tape.

Just use photoshop to scale up a bit in the same image area.
