    I have 25 full 63min mini DV tapes to capture for a client.

    What would be the best capture settings and codec to use for;
    1. DV
    2. HDV

    Capturing using Sony Deck & using FCP 7

    I would like to keep file sizes to a minimum and the end product doesn’t need to be HDV but im just curious of the file sizes ill get from the two different formats.

    Cheers Matt

    If you are capturing through FW, you capture the original codec.
    To capture as HDV you would need to resize and transcode on the fly.

    Same size. DV and HDV have the same data rate: 25 Mbps.

    Both DVand HDV occupy 13gb storage per hour tape.

    I seem to be getting 43gb for an hour tape using HDV-Apple ProRess 422

    I would be happy with 13gb

    As David wrote, any of both formats (DV, HDV) take 13GBs per hour.
