if i have say 10 clips in my browser from a 5min master tape, captured low res, remove that media, and then i capture that same tape complete at a higher res, does the original logged clips in my browser now link to the new hires media on the full clip…same tape name obviously

You need to make your Easy Setup to the high res format you are wanting to use and then do a Batch Capture. To do so, highlight all the clips in your Browser, control click or click File, Batch Capture. It will launch the Capture interface and capture your clips with using the same file name, time code in/out point, and will use your easy setup for resolution.

    that’s what i was thinking, but it didn’t relink…

    here’s the situation…

project came in from out of house…we are hirezzing it, color correcting, and outputting…

sequence was edited DVCProHD@23.98…footage I’m having issues with are SD, Beta SP and Digibeta sources) captured @ 29.97, edited in the 23.98 sequence…we need to upconvert the footage, and be done…
but issue is 29.97 footage in 23.98 sequence…if I “decompose” the sequence, the new clips are referencing 23.98, but the source footage is really 29.97.

are you saying if I select the DVCPro 23.98 capture codec, and recapture the footage, it will read the 29.97 tape, but make the new clips 23.98?

The frame rate difference may through a curve ball into the discussion, however, we do this kind of thing between SD and HD frequently. All of our footage is 29.97, but we will often log footage as SD, edit, and the batch capture to HD using the log and capture data with a new easy setup.

Things to consider would be . . . does the deck allow for frame rate conversion on the fly? Do you have a Kona (or similar) that will allow you to upconvert/downconvert in real time? The card is a critical piece in the process.

[Joe Procopio] “are you saying if I select the DVCPro 23.98 capture codec, and recapture the footage, it will read the 29.97 tape, but make the new clips 23.98?”

My only concern is with the frame rate, and that is because I have never had to do such a conversion. Otherwise, it should recapture the footage using the new easy setup.
