  • Capture Problems in FCP 4.0

    Hi all,
I was attempting to capture some footage in FCP 4.0 and ran into a few problems. When I opened FCP it would not recognize my camera (Canon ZR200). After confirming the proper device setting in my preferences were correct, I opened the Log and Capture window and FCP would repeatedly crash.

I tried again, this time using another camera (Panasonic DVX100A) and had the same results: FCP crashes when attempting to Capture.

I switched FireWire ports and tested both cameras and cables in iMovie and everything worked just fine.

I Trashed the preferences and had the same results. I then attempted to completely unistall and reinstall FCP. After the reinstall the problem continued. But I know that I didn’t completely unistall the previous version because I did not need to enter my serial #.

I ran a search for “Final Cut” and deleted all folders and files associated with the program and attempted to reinstall again. Again, the same results: the serial 3 is still there and FCP crashes upon attempting to open the Capture window.

Can someone please help me COMPLETELY remove Final Cut Pro 4.0 from my system so I can start from scratch with a totally fresh install? I followed the unistallation instrustions on Apple’s site but there must be a preference or config file somewhere that I’m missing.

If anyone can help with the installation or simply have a suggestion for fixing the “crashing when attempting to capture” issue, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks a lot!

First question. After the re-install does FCP recognize the camera? And is the camera turned on before starting FCP? So, it was two questions.

No, after the reinstall the problem persists. FCP will not recognize the camera and will crash upon opening the Log and Capture window.

And yes, the camera is powered on.

I guess I’m just looking to do a complete reinstall without any left-over files or folders.

Thanks for the response. Any additional help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried upgrading to 4.5?
The upgrades solved a lot of weird bugs.
