I have a mini-DV tape that recorded HDV material from a Canon HV-30, but some tape at the end recorded some video from a Sony HDV camera although the tape indiciates it is DV material. When I try to capture the earlier HDV material, the Capture Now freezes after a few seconds. I’ve tried changing the Audio/Video settings from HDV to DV but nothing seems to work. Is there any way of overriding FCP so it will just capture the material?

As a last ditch effort I captured into Adobe Premiere Pro, which I know nothing about, and it did capture the footage, but I have green screen editing to do which I can’t begin to figure out in this app.

If you’ve captured the footage in Premiere Pro you can either take it into FCP for whatever work you need to do or do it directly in Premiere Pro. Neither NLE has a terrific chroma key, but in Premiere Pro, you can send the clip(s) to After Effects where you can use the included Keylight plugin.
