Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Capture Issues

    Hi.

Im currently experiencing some Capture Issues. Im running Final Cut Pro v 4.0.

Im trying to capture direct from my output on my television box.
I have run my video/audio cable directly to my Audio/Video input on my DV camera, and proceeded to run my firewire DV cable to my computer. The problem Im having is capturing these video’s into Final Cut, even though when I select Capture & Log, it plays the video coming through my television live on my computer, but when I attempt to capture the video, it only has the message “waiting for timecode”. I have a tape in the camera (which is blank), so I gather the only way the timecode will correct itself, is if the tape has actual recordings on it, rather than a live stream.

If anybody can suggest a way to help.. would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards, Bradley Walker

Is your camera compatible with your version of Final Cut:

Try capturing with the manual/DV Converter setting instead of controlling through Firewire.

Yes it is compatible, because I am able to capture of other tapes with video recorded on to the tape.

If theyres a way to record direct from the television via audio/video cable, then that would solve it.

We need to know which Easy Setup setting(s) you are using.

If you are using DV-NTSC Firewire Basic, then it won’t work, because your TV is not a Firewire device. It is being recognized as an ANALOG device.

As I suggested previously, you must use DV-NTSC DV Converter and remove the tape from your camera. The camera should work as a “pass through” device. I’ve done what you are doing dozens of times with success utilizing a Canon XL2 as a “pass through” device between the Mac and the TV.

I assume your camera has basic RCA connectors for the TV.
