Capture Issue
Hi. I searched the forums but haven’t seen this particular problem. I’m running FCP 6.0 on a Mac Pro with dual 3 GHz processors and 4 MB of RAM. We capture over Firewire with a Sony HVR-M25U deck.
Suddenly FCP is locking up when capturing (HDV). I have deck control, and I can see the video while logging, but when I attempt to capture the deck will cue up, play through pre-roll, and then FCP will just freeze within a few seconds of beginning the capture. The deck continues to play normally. Sometimes I get a “general error” message and sometimes I have to “ESC” out of the capture. I’ve tried trashing the prefs, but no luck. It happens whether I’m Batch Capturing or using “Capture Now.” The only other active Firewire connection is a 1 TB hard drive that we’re using for the Capture Scratch, but it’s plugged into a different bus.
This is a brand-new issue and I’m really stumped. Has anyone else come across this? Thanks for any advice.

Do you have a second FW bus on a card, or are you plugging one device in the front and the other in the back? All the FW connections on the mac are one buss. If you plug in two devices, you may get a negative reaction. Not always, but sometimes. It can be intermittent.
