  • capture issue in FCP

I am new to HD and just purchased a Sony HVR-a1. After using it for about two weeks and down loading into FCP I have two questions.
I have had trouble getting FCP to recognize the a1. I’ll do the recommended settings in easy set up, select “new project”, then go to capture and FCP will say capture is disabled. I’ll repeat this process again and again and finally FCP will “see” the camera and allow me to capture.

    Next problem.
I exported some footage as a ref movie and used DVD studio pro to burn a DVD. (the a1 is 1080i). The DVD played fine on my G5 and intel Mac, but my Bose DVD player would not recognize the format, so I can’t play the DVD on my HD TV. What would I have to do so the DVD would be playable. The Bose system is not old; just got it in Dec. 08. and until now it has played everything I’ve put in it.
thanks for taking the time to consider these questions.

Create a proper file first, then go to DVDSP.

Thanks for your reply. I read the article and it all sounded straight-forward…but…
I exported as a .ref and formatted as Mpeg 2 in Compressor. Set DVD studio to burn a SD 16×9 vid, processed—played fine on computer, but “format unsupported” on my Bose.
    Perplexed
