How is the camera connected? Is it routed directly to a hard drive? Are you using a hub, which can sometimes impede performance? Have you checked your camera on Apple’s website for device compatibility with your software? Can you at least capture through the DV-NTSC Converter setting without controlling the device through Final Cut?

Hi, Camera is running off DC power. No hub is used and the camera has been used before to import video to final cut…this is why I am stumped. I can’t even capture it through a non-controllable device setting.

Regardless of whether or not the camera successfully worked before, if it is NOT mentioned on the list of approved devices by Apple, it may not always work the way it did before. Make sure you check the device list on Apple’s website. An unapproved device may work great 16 times but may fail 34 times.

Is the camera connected first to an external hard drive, which is in turn connected to the computer? Make sure the camera is connected directly to the computer’s internal hard drive, and that you are capturing video to the EXTERNAL DRIVE, not the computer’s internal drive. The application should always be on the internal hard drive and the captured files should always be assigned to the external hard drive. (It helps folks who are trying to assist you if you lead off your very first posting with ALL your pertinent information – type of computer, type of external hard drive, type of camera, version of editing software, etc., because there are a billion variables associated with troubleshooting these types of concerns.)

Try deleting the com.apple.finalcutpro.plist file in the ~/library/preferences/ and delete the files only, not folders in the Final Cut User Data folder. Worked for me.
