Hi guys, I need a bit of help if posible.

I’m trying to do the incredibly simple and facing frustrating difficulties – capturing from a mini DVD cam is not happening!

FCP freezes with the cam attached, so I force quit. The black triangle beneath the application in the dock remains there until the camera is disconnected, as does the application in the force quit window.

After trying for an hour or so I reverted to iMovie to try and capture the footage, but the same thing happens!

Has anyine got any suggestions? I’ve tried different DV cables and so on, but no joy.

    Thanks in advance.

    This is very simple.

    You can’t do it.

DVD camcorders don’t record “DV files” and that’s what FCP is designed to capture over FW.

Dub the DVD to a miniDV tape via S-Video, then capture the DV tape.

OR use DVD-Ripper software to take the files from the DVD when its in the Mac’s DVD drive.

    Here are 3 popular rippers.

Mpeg SlipStream is very popular -found here-

BTW, DVD camcorders use MUCH more compression when recording compared to DV camcorders.
