I have clips in miniDV and I need to cut the material and do some effects & color correction etc. What is the best way to do that. I mean that how I edit the whole thing without quality lose?

    I was tinking this:

    1. Capture with Premiere pro
    2. cut the film with Premiere pro
    3. Exporting the complete film with uncompressed mode
    4. Add color corrections etc in AE
    5. Exporting the final versio with uncompressed mode
    6. Burning the film with Premiere

Is this the best way to do it?

Also, I have like 300 cuts in the film and every one need to have different kind of values in color correction. If I cut in Prmiere and then export that, I have one big video file and its very hard to do different values for every cut am I right? Is there any possibility to open Premiere pro project in AE? That way I wouldnt need to export the video from Premiere.

you should be able to get a reference movie from pp to ae or possibly bring in the pp project in ae, and avoid the giant uncompressed file that you will get by exporting out of pp. the minidv media will be a little more difficult to work with in ae, but you’re not going to lose quality, since the reference movie will not be rendering any footage (unless you have effects in pp that require rendering). check the help menu in pp, it should lay out a workflow with ae.

i know you can export an ae project to premiere without rendering, again, check the help menu in ae for details (and possible limitations).

being able to bring the pp project into ae directly may make your color correcting easier, but it will still be a lot of work if you need to correct every shot. and i think i would create individual color adjustment effects for each shot, rather than changing the values of a single effect at every cut.

When I import PP prject to AE it doesnt come like it should. In PP I have layer scale in last clip of the first set but when importing to AE there is one extra clip after that and it has the scale “effect”.

    See this pic: https://koti.tnnet.fi/hiost/ppae1.jpg

And when I’m trying to export AE project to PP it doesnt do well either. First I get some error:

Clips dont have any effects. Also their order is different what it was in AE.

    Project in AE: https://koti.tnnet.fi/hiost/ae.jpg

    Project in PP: https://koti.tnnet.fi/hiost/pp.jpg

This is so frustrating. I should have started editing this music video on monday but cant start because if I first cut it in PP and then can’t import it to AE like it is in PP I would have done hours of work for nothing.

I just need to cut the video in PP and add few cross fades. Then add effects and color corrections in AE. AE should have same cut possibilities than PP does have and we would have way less problems with whole editing process. But cutting and editing like that is just horrible in AE 🙁
