Here’s an odd question. I’m working on some spec political spots. The director wants to access news clips on a DVR at his home remotely using a Slingbox and import them into FCP here in my edit suite. Is it possible? I’m not that familiar with Slingbox. Is there a better way to get the clips off the set top box and into FCP? Is there a workflow for this?

    Thanks,

These kinds of lame-brain “shortcuts” are always incredible hassles. Slingbox’s site used to have a user manual you could download. If it’s got a composite output run that to your DV deck or a convertor. Easier if he makes dubs to VHS or DV at his end rather than expecting you to cope with his dumb idea of using a DVR.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
