  • Canvas Shows Black …not RGB or Wireframe issue?

As a FCP newbie (switched from AVID LIQUID on a PC – 6 weeks ago)
I’m in the middle of my 2nd project. A video montage the contains over 150 pictures.
After putting all the pictures in the timeline about 2/3’s down the sequence after days of editing and adding basic motion on each picture, the pictures were no longer displaying in the canvas other than a flash at the cut between clips. The Canvas was only showing Black. (the first 70+ pictures were displaying fine)
After a quick search of the message boards, I checked the following canvas settings:
    Image + Wireframe (on)
    RGB (on)
    Background was Black

If I changed the Canvas background to White the pictures now appear.

However, when I add keyframes for basic motion the timeline above that clip goes yellow and needs to be rendered. I dont remember that happening for the first 70+ pictures or my first project. Everything was either Green or Red.

I believe my new attempts to use shortcuts keys may have changed some settings that I just can’t find.
Sorry this post is so long, but all the other posts for canvas black issues were simply the RGB or wireframe settings. This is not the case in my situation.
Please let me know what you think.
    Thanks
    Art

Rise the “Still Cache” in the Preferences.

I was able to find the fix. Based on a recommendation from a friend who edits professionally, I toggled the RT Pop uP Menu on the timeline (upper right corner) from Safe RT to unlimited RT back to Safe RT and the timeline started acting as it always did. No yellow, everything was either red or green (render status) and I was able to change the canvas background back to black and still see the clips. Don’t ask me why, but it worked.
    Thanks Abby!
