December 10, 2010 at 9:31 pmWith all due respect Steve, I rather not go through the long process of reinstalling FCP. I can’t seem to get my serial number registered either. It says not valid. (which further suggests I don’t want to reinstall) How can that be. I see the serial number right there with on the FCP startup screen

You could use FCS remover and remove just the applications (none of the media/templates which is what takes so long to install). This would go very fast, as would a reinstall.

It’s weird that it’s not updating.

What is the version of Motion, color, compressor, apple qmaster?
Perhaps you just need to re-install the updater. -

Just guessing here but could it be a corrupted file — the one that holds the serial number ???
Along with Jeremy’s suggestion,
To avoid the agony of a reinstall which is recommended, at the very least, when you update the OS:
Reinstall OS X & Final Cut Studio The Right Way – Part 3 – By David A. Saraceno
Reinstall OS X & Final Cut Studio The Right Way – Part 2 – By David A. Saraceno
Reinstall OS X & Final Cut Studio The Right Way – Part 1 – By David A. Saraceno
Once you have these images in place the install process is a lot faster than working off a “super” drive.
