With all due respect Steve, I rather not go through the long process of reinstalling FCP. I can’t seem to get my serial number registered either. It says not valid. (which further suggests I don’t want to reinstall) How can that be. I see the serial number right there with on the FCP startup screen

[Greg Ball] “With all due respect Steve, I rather not go through the long process of reinstalling FCP.”

You could use FCS remover and remove just the applications (none of the media/templates which is what takes so long to install). This would go very fast, as would a reinstall.

It’s weird that it’s not updating.

Check to see if the pro apps update worked on the other programs.
What is the version of Motion, color, compressor, apple qmaster?
Perhaps you just need to re-install the updater.

    Repaired permissions lately?

Just guessing here but could it be a corrupted file — the one that holds the serial number ???

    Along with Jeremy’s suggestion,

To avoid the agony of a reinstall which is recommended, at the very least, when you update the OS:

Reinstall OS X & Final Cut Studio The Right Way – Part 3 – By David A. Saraceno

Reinstall OS X & Final Cut Studio The Right Way – Part 2 – By David A. Saraceno

Reinstall OS X & Final Cut Studio The Right Way – Part 1 – By David A. Saraceno

Once you have these images in place the install process is a lot faster than working off a “super” drive.
